![]() Some of the censorship in the English dub was poor. Of course, these issues were at least fixed starting with Season 2, even though some absurd rules were still there. There are many absurd made up rules, such as Yugi using tidal wave to defeat a fish-type monsters, as well using his Mammoth's Graveyard (a zombie-type monster) to fusion with Kaiba's Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon to causing it to "slowly dying". Weaker duelists such as Panik who only uses 1000-2000 atk and def points monsters and two spells. This often causes people who learned about the game through the anime to frequently misinterpret rules when they play the actual card game. Most cards don't play the same as the actual game and there are many made up rules. Just like the original manga and it's 1998 anime adaptation by Toei, Joey and Tristan used to pick on Yugi when they steal pieces of the Millenium Puzzle. However, Duel Monsters just like Season 0 had a few flaws. Especially Dan Green's performance as Yugi Muto and Pharaoh Atem, Eric Stuart's performance as Seto Kaiba, Wayne Grayson as Joey Wheeler, and Darren Dunstan as Maximillion Pegasus. As they kept their dub very faithful to the anime, and the occasional changes they made actually improved upon some things of the original Japanese version.ĭuel Monsters has a well-written story, top-notch animation, interesting characters, exciting duels and had many over-the-top moments that are also pretty funny, as well as a very heart-warming ending.Įxcellent voice acting in both Japanese and English. Great and memorable dub by 4Kids Entertainment. But more importantly the next show Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. It was followed up with a sequel called The Dark Side of Dimensions, which is an improvement to Pyramid of Light and Bonds Beyond Time. It also introduced Yu-Gi-Oh! to the West. What makes this Yu-Gi-Oh better in my opinion than Season 0 is because it helped newcomers understand the basics of the game. Now on to part two of Yu-Gi-Oh night, now we come and we enter Duel Monsters, or really the first anime of Yu-Gi-Oh and the events after Season 0.Ī high schooler named Yugi Muto and along with his friends and his rival Seto Kaiba battle against evil using the power of a card game called Duel Monsters, and the power of the ancient Millennium Puzzle. Why? Well let's go over the shows shall we? So after looking over the two series I'll go over each of the strengths and flaws of this popular anime series from my youth, and while I did enjoy it, I didn't enjoy Yu-Gi-Oh as much as the other anime I have talked about. When loading a save file, the game looks for the string to determine if save data exists.Yu-Gi-Oh! is based on manga of the same name that also had spawned a popular card game series, and was so popular that it kind of confused people including me that the first season was actaully it's own series simply called Yu-Gi-Oh! (or Yu-Gi-Oh! Season 0 by fans) while the rest of the first anime was called Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters. This string is written to the save file upon creation. Yamadron and Millennium Shield can be traded back from Duel Monsters II: Dark Duel Stories, but the other four cannot, meaning they cannot be legitimately obtained in any way. Nine of the remaining cards can be obtained via the above passwords, but the other six were only available in Japan during February 1999 as Duel Monsters National Tournament prize cards: The game contains 365 cards, 350 of which are obtainable through normal gameplay. The following passwords give you cards that can only be obtained this way: A new screen will appear, where Yami Yugi will ask you to enter a valid password. Press Up, Down, B, Down, Down, B + Up, B at the title screen. The message preventing you from accessing Versus Mode on Super Game Boy 2 will disappear, and the sound effects specific to the Super Game Boy will not play anymore. A sound effect will confirm the password input. Press Left, B (×3), Up, B, B, B + Right at the title screen. Reset your game and everything will be gone. A sound effect will confirm correct entry. Press Down, Up, B, Down, Down, Right, Up (×4), B + Down at the title screen.
